These Colorado Companies are Among the Fastest-Growing in America

Inc. Magazine included 146 Colorado-based companies Tuesday on its list of the 5,000 fastest-growing private ventures in the United States.

The number of Colorado companies that made the Inc. 5000 list, which has become a hallmark of entrepreneurial success, is down slightly from 2020 and 2021. In 2020, 151 Colorado companies were listed, and 163 made the list in 2021.

The rankings were determined based on the percentage of revenue growth from 2018 to 2021. To qualify for the 2022 Inc. 5000, companies must have generated a minimum of $100,000 in 2018 and $2 million in 2021.

All of the companies are privately held, independent and for-profit. They must apply for the list and have their revenue numbers verified.

“The accomplishment of building one of the fastest-growing companies in the U.S., in light of recent economic roadblocks, cannot be overstated,” Scott Omelianuk, editor-in-chief of Inc., said in a statement.

From 2018 to 2021, the Colorado companies on the list together generated $7.3 billion in revenue and added 14,285 jobs, according to the magazine.

Of the 146 companies, 92 had made the list in the past. Ninety-six of the companies are based in Denver, 19 in Boulder and 12 in Colorado Springs.

Harvest Hosts, a Vail-based membership program for RVers, was the top-ranked Colorado company, listed at No. 70. It experienced revenue growth of 5,697% during the three-year period, according to the magazine.

The Harvest Hosts platform provides access to a network of hosts, including wineries, farms, breweries, museums and other attractions, that allow RVers to stay overnight. Joel Holland, owner and CEO of Harvest Hosts, took over the company in 2018. At the time, he had relocated to Vail from Arlington, Va., where he founded the subscription content platform Storyblocks.

Holland revamped the Harvest Hosts technology and has since grown the platform from 6,000 members to 240,000. While he started as the sole employee, Harvest Hosts now has 52 full-time workers, he recently told the Denver Business Journal.

"We are honored to be among the top 100 companies on the Inc. 5000 this year," Holland said in a statement. "Our mission is to help millions of people live happier lives through road travel, while supporting wonderful small businesses and communities along the way. The Inc. ranking shows that we are accomplishing our mission, and this fills us with pride."

Inc. Magazine started the annual rankings in 1982 and listed 500 companies. It expanded to 5,000 in 2007, but only the top 500 are featured in the print magazine.
